What's Your Word for 2019?
Updated: Dec 17, 2018
My word for 2019 is... G R O W.
With 2018 coming to an end (HOW?!) I have been trying to take about an hour a day to really think about 2019. What do I want to accomplish? What went well this year that I want to continue doing and what wasn’t so successful?
Grow is my word for 2019 because I want to do just that. GROW. I want to grow as a person and really start dedicating some time to become a better version of myself. I want to read more books that help me think outside the box, listen to podcasts that I normally wouldn’t, and intentionally take time to relax.
Since working from home, alone most of the time, I feel like I don't often go into deep thought like I used to in college. I would find myself killing time between classes and, more often than not, people watching the hustle and bustle of the students around me. I would often think about what that person/stranger might be like. What kind of personality do they have? Are they having a good day today? I know that might be strange, but I felt like that kind of thinking stretched my mind a little and I miss being in deep thought. I want to try to pack up my laptop on a not-so-busy day and work at a library or a local coffee shop, just try to put myself around other people more often in 2019.
I want to GROW my business to be more streamlined into doing the kind of work I love and learning to say “no” to work that isn’t aligned with that mindset. I want to GROW Swell Design to land more web design clients and expand my knowledge on that subject. I want to grow revenue and relationships. I want to grow my skillset and try new art forms.
Even more literally, I want to GROW more plants in my home (am I ready for a Monstera??) even though I already have 20 indoor plants. Something about the weekly routine of watering them and moving them every few days to get optimal sunlight is therapeutic.
I didn’t have a “word” for 2018, but looking back, I think that if I had chosen one, it would have been “prepare” because nearly everything new I tried this year required preparation rather than just going with the flow in the moment. Not that preparation won’t be important in 2019, but at least I’ll have some experience now!
I hand-lettered this word on my iPad before cutting it out on my @officialcricut and setting up this photo. I had tissue paper in my office and made all 6 of these flowers by hand. I wanted to do something different. Something to help me GROW a craft I don’t do every day.
If you had to choose a word for 2019, what would it be? Whether you are an entrepreneur, a mom, a student or anything in between, it is nice to think ahead and have a word to fall back on!
